September is not only Life Insurance Awareness month, but it is also Child Cancer Awareness month. I can think of no better reason to consider a life insurance policy for a child than the devastation of losing a child to cancer – and then having to pay for the costs that come with it out of pocket. Most of us don’t have those kinds of funds readily available. Most of us with children are hoping we can use the money that we put aside for them for things like education and adulthood, not death and burial.
A commonly overlooked group of people who need life insurance includes children, teens and college students. This is an uncomfortable scenario to imagine, but what if something happened to your college student and you are now liable for their remaining student debt, including, but not limited to student loans, rentals, and textbooks? If you are faced with burying a child, the last thing you need to deal with is the additional grief of having to pay for it yourself. This is to say nothing of having to pay for the loans that child had as well. Parents, your children need life insurance!
I'll leave you with two thoughts:
- Remember: it’s not for you; it’s for them!
- DIME – Death, Income, Mortgage, Education
