For most of us we think an earthquake happens along the west coast and we do not have to worry about them along the eastern seaboard. Many of us believe we won’t be victims of earthquakes
It may shock you though that Bucks County, PA is listed by some as a moderate risk for an earthquake. Some of our clients in Reading, PA have experienced tremors. The last earthquake in PA occurred on Sunday, October 25, 2009 and registered 2.8 magnitude. This quake was located 100 miles west of Philadelphia and 15 miles south-southwest of Harrisburg.
Magnitude measures the energy released at the source of the earthquake and is measured on seismographs. The earthquake near Harrisburg may not have been felt except by a very few under favorable conditions.
Most homeowners insurance policies cover four main areas: the home’s structure, personal belongings, liability and additional living expense. Earthquake is not a coverage that is included in a standard homeowner’s policy, but the coverage is available in the form of an add-on endorsement.
