Effective April 22, 2010, the US Environmental Protection Agency ruled that any professional remodeler working in homes built before 1978 would be required to be certified by the EPA. To assist contractors in understanding and complying with the rules, the EPA has published “Small Entity Compliance Guide to Renovate Right”.
The rule addresses remodeling and renovation projects disturbing more than six square feet of potentially contaminated painted surfaces for all residential and multifamily structures that are inhabited or frequented by pregnant women and children under the age of six.
With this lead paint ruling comes the exposure for a lead paint pollution loss. Most insurance companies exclude pollution from their general liability policies.
