What type of coverage do you need?

Automotive News1 breaks down “sporty” vehicles  into three classes: premium, mid-sized and compact, each class containing several makes and models. A total of 3,780 Sporty vehicles were reported stolen in the U.S. from January 1, 2009 through December 31, 2012. By far, the mid-sized class had the most theft activity with 3,271 thefts, or 87 percent of the Sporty total. So which states had the most theft?

  1. California- 764
  2. Flordia- 443
  3. Texas- 381
  4. Georgia- 257
  5. Michigan- 187

And now for the cars, let’s see the most stolen sports cars in the United States:

  1. Chevrolet Camaro
  2. Ford Mustang
  3. Dodge Charger
  4. Porsche Panamera
  5. Audi A5/S5
  6. Chevrolet Corvette
  7. Nissan 370Z
  8. BMW 6 Series
  9. Porsche 911

No wonder these are the most stolen cars, they’re all a nice set of wheels. Chances are if you own any of these cars you’re a car enthusiast and are pretty cool yourself.  If you’re looking into buying one of these cars, or already own one, you obviously don’t want it to get stolen. Here are some tips to keep your car safe:

  • Lock your car or set your alarm
  • Never leave your car unattended and always take your keys with you
  • Keep windows closed when you park your vehicle
  • Park in a well-light area
  • Don’t leave valuables or expensive electronics in plain sight
  • Parking in a garage is safer than parking at the curb
