Have you recently downsized, or have you accumulated too much stuff to fit into your house? You might find you need to rent a storage unit for some of the excess. While your goods may still be covered under your Philadelphia home insurance even when stored offsite (check your policy to be sure) an increased accumulation of possessions might mean that you should check that the amount limits on your policy are sufficient for your current situation.
Additional storage space offsite can be useful, not just for dealing with an excess of possessions. You can use it to organize seasonal activities. No matter how big your house or sheds may be, tripping over summer sporting gear all through winter can be a pain. How much easier might it be if you could just pack everything up at the end of summer and move it to the unit, and while you’re there, collect the winter gear you’ve been storing?
As your kids grow, you could also pack up the things they are not using right now and store them safely but accessibly. Rather than accumulating all their things at home, get them out of the house and let the kids go get it out again themselves later if they decide they want it.
Your Philadelphia home insurance may offer financial protection while you have everything at home or whether some or all of it is offsite, but you should look at the policy limits to be sure and to check you have enough coverage. Contact your agent if you need to increase your coverage for your possessions or if you to obtain additional insurance for items you plan to store.
