“I scream, you scream, we all scream for ICE CREAM!!”
July is National Ice Cream month as designated by President Ronald Reagan in 1984. How do you plan to celebrate? Whether you enjoy this cool treat on a wafer or a sugar cone, soft-serve delights or a fizzy float, here are some fun facts to reflect on:
What’s your favorite flavor?
For me, molasses is very much an acquired taste, but now I love it so much that I recently enjoyed a Shoo-Fly Pie ice cream cone. Although vanilla still ranks #1 in favorite flavor, here are some of the more unconventional selections:
· Corn on the Cob
· Ghost Pepper
· Pear & Blue Cheese
You mean it’s healthy, too?
It may surprise you to learn that ice cream has several health benefits, such as boosting immunity, strengthening bones and helping to prevent breast cancer. Eating something cold can even help you lose weight! If these don’t convince to run out and treat yourself to a cone, consider that ice cream is loaded with vitamins and minerals, stimulates your brain, improves fertility and just plain makes you happier!
· It typically takes 50 licks to finish an ice cream cone
· On average Americans consume 23 gallons of this frozen treat per year
· Agnes Marshall, a Victorian cook, is credited with the invention of the ice cream cone, which she called a “cornet”
