What type of coverage do you need?

With Thanksgiving only a week away, it’s time to start planning and getting that delicious Thanksgiving meal prepared. There is a lot that goes into getting Thanksgiving dinner on the table and there is so much food to make! There’s turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, corn, green beans, mashed potatoes, cranberries, pumpkin pie and so much more! Hungry yet? So are we! However, preparing all of these delicious goodies can  lead to a disaster in the kitchen. Therefore, safety is important, because there is a lot of activity and people at home. Here are some facts about Thanksgiving Day fires:

  • Thanksgiving Day home fires cause more property damage and claim more lives than home fires on other days
  • Cooking fires nearly double on Thanksgiving Day
  • Having a working smoke alarm reduces one’s chances of dying in a fire by nearly half

To make sure that none of these things happen to you, we put together some safety tips to keep you and your family safe this Thanksgiving:

  1. Stay in the kitchen when you are cooking on the stove top so that you can keep an eye on the food.
  2. Stay in the home while cooking your turkey and check on it frequently.thanksgiving dinner
  3. Keep children away from the stove- at least 3 feet away.
  4. Keep knives out of the reach of children.
  5. Purchase a fire extinguisher to keep in the kitchen.
  6. Keep your cooking area clean- keep towels, pot holders, storage containers and other flammable things away from the hot stove.
  7. If you’re using a turkey fryer, make sure it is outdoors and in an open area.
  8. After your Thanksgiving guests leave, check all appliances to make sure they are turned off.

Follow these safety tips to save a safe and successful Thanksgiving this year. Thanksgiving is all about the 3 F’s: food, family and football! Don’t let a fire or accident ruin this great holiday. The Weimer Group wishes you and your family a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving.
