What type of coverage do you need?

It's Thanksgiving! It's that time of the year to spend with family and to reflect on what you are truly thankful for. However, everyone spending time with their families means travel, travel, travel. The Wednesday before Thanksgiving and Sunday afterwards are some of the most hectic travel days of the year. TPG International Contributor, Lori Zanio created some survival tips for traveling over Thanksgiving.

1) If possible, travel off-peak - Try to take a couple extra days off of work so you can travel on the Tuesday before or the Monday after. If that is not possible, flying on Thanksgiving Day will help to avoid crowds. Flights are actually cheaper if you fly on Thanksgiving.

2) Pick flights with layovers in warmer climates, like Los Angeles, Dallas or Atlanta - Avoid layovers in places that are prone to blizzards. Somehow there will be a blizzard the day before Thanksgiving.

3) RELAX - You will encounter long lines, crowds, and rude people. Staying positive will make time pass more quickly.

4) Noise Cancelling Headphones - lots of screaming kids, adults, and babies in airports

5) Make sure your electronics are fully charges and bring an extra battery pack - Searching aimlessly around for an open plug in an airport is not ideal when everyone else in the airport is doing the same thing.

6) If you have kids, make sure you bring games, toys, and snacks for them - You never know if you will be stuck in the airport for longer than expected.

7) Make sure to have the airline phone numbers on speed dial - you never know if your flight will get cancelled. Being ahead of the game will save you from standing in that long line.

8) Try alternate methods of travel - If possible, take the train, hop in your car, or take a bus. It may take less time than flying if there are delays.

9) Get to the airport EARLY

10) Take a deep breath and BE THANKFUL - In a couple hours you will be at home, eating mom's famous pumpkin pie.
