  • Did you know the origins of Halloween can be traced back thousands of years to the ancient Celts? The Celts believed the souls of the dead wandered streets and towns at night. To keep the evil spirits happy and guarantee plentiful crops, gifts/treats were left out, thus the custom of trick-or-treating.

  • In 1921, Anoka, Minnesota held the first official, citywide observance of Halloween in the United States.

  • In the US there are more than 36 million children that are between the ages of 5-13.

  • The colors orange and black were chosen because orange is associated with the harvest in the Fall and black signified death and darkness.

  • Ireland began the tradition of placing candles in hollowed-out turnips to keep away spirits and ghosts, thus the Jack o’ Lantern was born.
  • Halloween candy sales average about $2 billion dollars annually in the US with the most popular candy among trick-or-treaters, Snickers!
  • Halloween is the 2nd most commercially successful holiday, with Christmas being the first.
